Welcome to our new website.
In 1980, Independent Unit Management opened its doors to what was then a brave new world of strata management. NSW strata laws had come into affect in 1961 but it took a few years before unit developments began to boom. By the early 80s, co-owners of Sydney’s bourgeoning vertical villages were lining up to seek assistance.
Fast forward to 2016, and 48,000 units are bought and sold here each year, two million residents live within hundreds of thousands of strata schemes.
By-laws abound and new state legislation is addressing the increasing complexity of managing your collective asset.
By 2030, pundits predict, unit dwelling could reach parity with free-standing housing in a city of six million (about the current size of Washington DC).
For more than 36 years, Independent Unit Management has developed the talent and systems to enhance collective assets with the combined residency of 8000 people –an estimated $1 billion worth of property under management.
Our new website is just the beginning of new services to assist us in our mission to help owners enhance, manage and protect these assets.
New unit buyers and due diligence
In our Informed Unit Buying section, we have outlined the most important question you must ask both yourself, qualified experts and people with a strong knowledge of the strata scheme you are potentially buying into.
We have listed a number of services we provide to ensure that anybody looking to buy a unit has the information they need to make an informed decision about this major investment.
Services for the 8000 residents within IUM managed unit blocks
IUM’s hardworking strata managers assist an estimated 2700 decision makers on owners corporation committees to ensure they have a valuable future collective asset and a harmonious living environment. Keeping contact details up to date, booking maintenance jobs, accessing keys and other services can be directed to your strata manager via the website.
With two million Sydney-siders living within strata schemes and billions of dollars worth of individual investment tied to the expert smooth-running of unit blocks across the city, we believe information is power. The more people who understand the importance of good governance (i.e sound owners corporation decision making) and that taking responsibility for the benefit of the collective asset will enhance your own property values and lifestyle, the better it will be for everyone.
In our blog, Your Collective Asset, and our series of ebook guides we will endeavour to answer your questions and give you insiders tips on how to look after your largest investment.
Of course we love to welcome new clients to the IUM fold. We provided background information and food for thoughtin these pages. The benefit of being one of Australia’s oldest family owned strata management companies is having a unique perspective. We have identified two main areas Sydney’s unit owners need to understand in order maximize their investment and enjoy their environment.
You can read more about that on our new clients section.
We have enjoyed great working relationships with a number of very professional trade and service suppliers from glaziers to plumbers, to accountants and structural engineers. Our directory can assist you in finding the right person for the job.
We like to help as many members of owners corporation committees as possible. If you don’t already work with us, we’d like you to ask yourself the question: Is your owners corporation equipped to make the right decisions to enhance, manage and protect your unit block?
With 36 years experience, we can help you understand the 10 main factors that assist in the type of strata governance that ensures a well-managed asset.
If you’re not happy with your current strata manager, we would be delighted to speak with you as soon as possible about your owners corporations goals. We can meet on site, take a tour of your unit block and discuss the best ways to go forward.
We have many fans of IUM and our expert strata managers. We could talk about ourselves ad nauseum, which would be boring, so we feel it’s much better to hear it from our clients in their own words. The perspective of clients who have worked with us for three decades is worth a read for anyone looking to manage an asset that continues to increase in value and amenity.
We hope you enjoy the new website’s services and content.
We look forward to your feedback and questions.
